To do this remove the sensor probe from the thermowell on the outlet water pipe and submerge as much of the tip as possible in a glass containing as much ice as cold water. The temperature display on the controller should read 32F 2F. Electrical connections should be checked periodically to ensure that no loose connections are present. Mechanical parts such as bolts and pipe fittings should be checked for secure attachments. Pipes valves and fittings should be inspected for leaks cracks or scaling. Spray nozzles should be inspected for scale buildup. Obstructed nozzles should be cleaned or replaced. Coil surfaces should be kept clean and free of foreign matter. Fins can be cleaned with warm water with mild detergent and a soft brush. If using commercially available fin cleaners ensure that they are compatible with both copper and aluminum. Grills and fan guards should also be kept clean and free of excessive dust or buildup. Fan motors should be checked at regular intervals for bearing damage. Fan motor running currents should be measured and recorded to check for abnormalities. Waterglycol process fluid should be sampled and analyzed annually before the onset of freezing weather to ensure proper freeze protection. Spray pipes should be drained or heat traced and insulated to prevent pipe bursts in freezing weather. Troubleshooting After turning on power to the HyprCool nothing happens. The display on the controller does not light up. Ensure that the controller circuit breaker is on. Ensure that transformer fuses are intact. Check that the voltage between controller power terminals 120 and COM is 120V. If the controller is still not receiving power check for loose wire connections. The fans turn on before the water temperature is at the set point. They turn on even when the process is not running. Depending on the siting of the cooling tower the temperature sensor may be exposed to heat from sources outside the system. For example a thermocouple in direct sunlight on a black asphalt rooftop may read slightly higher than the process water. In this case EMSCO recommends insulating the thermowell such as with foam insulation wrap. Questions Call 877.77.EMSCO. 5
